Instructor, Art and Anatomy
Lauren A. Toomer is a figurative artist who creates artwork inspired by the human body. Graphite drawing serves as Toomer's home medium, while she also rigorously explores painting and sculptural projects. Her uninhibited and traditional approach to art-making encouraged Toomer to study art and anatomy while obtaining her M.F.A. in Art Practice at Stanford University. Presently, Toomer has joint lecturing appointments in the Departments of Art and Art History, Surgery, and Anesthesiology at Stanford. She remains committed to advancing the field of medical humanities and art while maintaining a dedicated studio practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. Artworks created by Toomer are on permanent display at the Redwood City, Fair Oaks Health Center, the Kaiser Permanente boardroom in California, and a sculptural installation at Stanford University School of Medicine. She has also been a guest speaker at the Anderson Collection and the American Association of Clinical Anatomists. Highlights of Toomer's exhibition history include the director's offices at SFMOMA, Art on Paper Miami, San Jose Tech Museum, and SCOPE NY.
